Troubleshooting Sync, Back up, and Upload issues

Learn how to resolve common issues with Sync, Back up, and Upload in pCloud Drive, including permission errors, read-only files, and missing folders.

If your Sync, Back up, or Upload process is stuck or shows errors, it is usually related to file permissions, file status, or changes in the file location.

Permission error: "pCloud doesn't have permissions to sync/backup this file"

This error typically means that the file:

  • Is set to read-only, or
  • Is locked by another application.

How to resolve:

Check if the file is read-only and remove the restriction:

Windows

Mac

Check file and folder location

If the files or folders have been moved or deleted from their original location, Sync or Back up may stop working correctly.

  • Make sure the original folder still exists.
  • Reconnect or re-add the folder if needed.

Check shared folder permissions

If you are syncing or backing up a shared folder:

  • Ensure you still have access to the folder
  • Verify that you have Edit permissions

Without proper permissions, Sync, Back up, or Upload will not be able to process the files.
