pCloud Photos AI: organize and explore your photo library

pCloud Photos AI adds smart features on top of the photos you already store in pCloud. When enabled, it can help you search your library by what's in a photo, automatically tag objects and scenes, and organize photos into albums by event. It also includes face grouping, described below, which groups photos containing the same person together and allows you to tag photos by person more easily. pCloud Photos AI is available with newly purchased pCloud Lifetime plans and subscriptions and this feature is off by default. You are never required to turn it on to use pCloud's storage services, and enabling it doesn't cost extra or unlock any other features.

What pCloud Photos AI can do?

If you turn this on, pCloud will process the photos in your account (excluding anything stored in a Crypto folder, which cannot be analysed) to:

  • Use face grouping to detect faces in your photos, group photos containing similar faces together, and allow you to more easily tag photos with people's names and browse "by person."

  • Automatically filter and organise photos into "Moments" based on events, dates, other activities.

This processing takes place on pCloud's own servers. Your photos are not sent to outside companies for this purpose, and pCloud doesn't use your photos to train its AI models.

AI-derived metadata (tags, vectors, cluster assignments) is stored in pCloud-operated databases and index services on the same private infrastructure, protected by network isolation and access controls consistent with the rest of the pCloud platform.

About face grouping

  • Face vectors: face grouping works by creating a face vector for every face detected in your photos, including family, friends, or anyone else who appears in them.

  • A face vector is a set of numbers describing facial geometry. It is not a photo, and it can't be viewed as an image on its own. However, data protection laws in the EU and elsewhere may classify this kind of data as biometric and sensitive personal data.

  • Face vectors are used only to suggest face clusters and tagging within your own account.

Face grouping is a suggestion tool, not a perfect one, it may not recognise every face (for exemple, if it's too small, blurry, or unclear), and it may occasionally split the same person into more that one group.

Your privacy

  • All processing happens on pCloud's own servers, your photos are not sent outside or third-party AI services for this purpose.

  • pCloud Photos AI does not use your photos or the results it generates to train AI models.

  • AI-derived metadata, such as tags, vectors, and cluster assignments , is stored in pCloud-operated databases on the same private infrastructure, protected by network isolation and access controls consistent with the rest of the pCloud platform.

  • Your photos remain protected by the same account access controls as the rest of your pCloud storage.

  • No person reviews your photo content as part of this feature.

  • Face groups, tags, and collections are private to your account and are never shared with other pCloud users.

  • Photos stored in a Crypto folder are excluded from processing and cannot be analysed by pCloud Photos AI.

Turning pCloud Photos AI on

pCloud Photos AI is strictly opt-in, it will never process your photos unless you actively enable it. When enabling it, you'll be asked to review the feature details and confirm your consent by checking a box before the "Turn on pCloud Photos AI" button becomes active. You can decline by selecting "Not now", which closes the screen with no feature enabled and no penalty.

To use pCloud Photos AI on mobile: first activate it at my.pcloud.com. Once it's enabled from the web, its AI-organised results will also become available in pCloud mobile app.

Managing your results

Once pCloud Photos AI is on, you don't need to accept every suggestion it makes. You can:

  • Remove a specific face from a group

  • Exclude a photo from an automated Collection or Album

  • Remove AI-generated tags

...all without needing to turn off the feature entirely.

Turning pCloud Photos AI off

At any time, you can:

  • Turn pCloud Photos AI off entirely from Settings. When you do it, pCloud deletes the AI-generated data associated with your account, including tags, face vectors, groupings, and smart albums, within 30 days.

  • Remove a specific face from a group, or remove a specific photo from an automated album, without turning off the whole feature.

Disabling pCloud Photos AI does not delete your original photos or other files stored in your account.
